A mother, daughter and grandmother’s journey working side by side at St Marys care home
A mother can be a daughter’s best friend; and at St Marys care home in Ipswich, Sally Purchase (aged 58) her daughter, Charlene Davies (aged 38) and her granddaughter Taylor Vince (aged 20) show they can be colleagues too! With a combined 21 years of experience at St Marys, Sally, Taylor and Charlene have turned the care home and its residents into an extension of their family.
Taylor has been a housekeeper at St. Marys for two years, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. Her grandmother, Sally, has worked at St. Marys for ten years, while her mother, Charlene, has proudly been part of the team for the past nine years. Taylor says:
What I love most about working in the same care home as my mother and grandmother is that they are very supportive, and we work well together.
For many young women growing up, their mothers are their heroes. For Taylor, watching her mum’s dedication and impact at Anchor was a powerful influence - proof that a mother’s wisdom and care can shape not just her family, but her professional world too. She finds inspiration in her mum’s approach.
She is always there for me when I need help or advice in the workplace, and she inspires me with her hard work and care for the residents.
For Charlene, seeing her daughter in this environment is about love that stretches beyond family and into the hearts of everyone around them.
I like seeing her interacting and caring for the residents. The residents here love the thought of family working together and are always interested in our relationship.
The family values they share aren't just something they live by at home; they bring that same spirit to their work as housekeepers too.
Sally says,
It’s great working alongside my daughter and granddaughter as I get to spend more time with them, and there’s never a dull moment.
In a world where work can often feel disconnected, Sally, Taylor, and Charlene have found something particularly special while working at Anchor; a workplace that feels like an extension of home. "I know that working at St Marys is a friendly, caring environment for all of us," Charlene says.
This Mother's Day at St Marys captured more than a workplace connection; a grandmother, mother, and daughter who don't just work together, but see Anchor as an extension of their own family, demonstrating that some legacies are worth continuing, and some paths worth walking side by side.
