Local children join Townend Close care home residents for World Book Day
Residents at a Keighley care home were joined by children from a local school for World Book Day.聽
The children from Glusburn School brought along their favourite books to share with residents at Townend Close care home in Keighley.
The residents shared memories of their own favourite books from when they were young, and also the ones they used read to their children and grandchildren.
Sam Richardson, Deputy Manager at Townend Close, said:
Books can be timeless, and we always remember reading our favourites for the first time. The resident鈥檚 faces were lighting up when we were talking through what books they used to read and looking up the artwork that went with these books.聽
The school children coming to visit is a real bonus and makes the day even more special. Children have an amazing variety of books available nowadays, and the residents love to hear children reading, as it brings back so many memories of reading to their own children and grandchildren.
Anchor Community Partnership Manager David Wood added:
It great to see the local school interacting with the residents. Our intergenerational activities always work really well at the home, and the residents love engaging with the children.
We have a busy couple of months coming up as we plan ahead for our VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations, so we鈥檒l be looking forward to lots more community engagement. We鈥檙e also hosting a Dementia Coffee morning next Wednesday 19 March at 10am, in partnership with Dementia Forward, so anyone who would like to attend is more than welcome.
